# FAQs

## **How do I change my status from 'student' to 'jobseeker?'**

If you're associated with a school or a bootcamp: Contact your school-provided coach to request the change.

If you're not associated with a school or bootcamp: Navigate to the Profile page, you will see a section for Career Status on the right with an 'Update' button. Click that and it will take you to the page where you can change your status.

## How do I schedule a meeting with my coach?

First you must submit your resume, LinkedIn, and Prentus profile for your coach to review. This will enable you to select a meeting with them. Then you will navigate to the My Coach page and select your preferred meeting type.

## How do I use the LinkedIn Analyzer?

The LinkedIn Analyzer requires your LinkedIn profile URL. Here's what the proper profile URL looks like for Prentus' founder, Rod Danan: <https://www.linkedin.com/in/rodhdanan/>

Over on your Profile page under the Personal tab, you should save the full length version as your LinkedIn URL: <https://www.linkedin.com/in/rodhdanan/>

What the analyzer cares about is what comes directly after the /in/ so for Rod it's: **rodhdanan**

The analyzer automatically reads the **rodhdanan** part, but if there are any extra characters (such as /) then it won't work.

## How do I use the Resume Builder?

The Resume Builder takes information from your profile, so you should first make sure that the information in your profile is accurate. Navigate to the Profile page and complete each tab (ex. Personal, School, Experience, Projects, etc.).

Make sure not to include any weird characters in your descriptions, as they may prevent the Resume Builder from working properly.

Next, navigate to the Resume page and complete the Resume Options section. Your resume will build itself as you fill out this section.

## How do I increase my Career Points?

Here are some ways you can increase your CP:

1. Log on every day in a week
2. Meet your Job Applications quota
3. Meet you Networking Messages quota
4. Complete your coach-assigned tasks each week
5. Complete Challenges that you can find in the bottom left section on your dashboard

# What is Prentus?

*Note from our founder, Rod Danan:*

Hey there and welcome to Prentus! Our goal is to build a job search that is fair, fast, and fun for everyone. But what is Prentus actually?

We are not just a job board.

We are not just a community.

We are not just a job tracking tool.

We are job searching social network where you can learn and earn your way to getting hired.

Why did I build Prentus? Well it started when I struggled in my first job search.

As a first-generation immigrant, I thought if you got the skills, you would get the job. I was wrong. Despite being more talented than others in my graduating class, I was last to get hired. And the reason for that is that job searching was a whole different ball game.

A couple of years later, I started career coaching and then building communities of career changers. I saw insanely talented people struggle to get hired every day. It drove me crazy to the point I decided to do something about it.

Today, Prentus has a community of 1000s of career changers across 100s of bootcamps and schools. We built the only platform you need on your job search with tools, jobs, and people all in one place. The results:

Jobseekers are **3x more engaged**, **get hired up to 50% faster,** and have fun while doing so.

It's still early in the journey so there is a lot more we hope to build from here. Thanks for being part of our mission!

# How to Play

Prentus is a lot of things but the most important is that we turn the job search into a game. In the same way that Duolingo helps people learn a language quickly and that video game on your phone gets you completing missions, Prentus will help you "win" your job search.

With weekly goals, Quests, and streaks, you will be guided on what to focus on each week in your job search. When you complete these challenges, you will earn **Career Points (CP).**

You can read more about CP on the next page and how to earn them. The important thing to know is that the more CP you earn, the better you are doing as a job seeker, and the more likely you are to get hired.

# Completing Quests

One of the biggest struggles for job seekers is not knowing what to do next. That's why we built **Quests** to always give you a direction to aim for in your job search.

View your upcoming Quests on your Dashboard

### What are Quests?

Quests are challenges you can complete within Prentus that will award you with a certain amount of CP. Each Quest is meant to help you become more familiar with Prentus and encourage actions that will help you get hired.

### How do Quests work?

On your main Dashboard, you can see the next Quests you can complete. After first sign up, you will see challenges like "Login every day of a given week" and "Comment on a post in the Feed".

As soon as you complete a Quest, you will see a pop-up animation like the one below and immediately be rewarded CP. You can view all your Quests that you have completed and that are coming up in the Game Center.

Quest Completed pop-up for completing the "Send your first DM on Prentus" Quest

# Leaderboard & Rankings

Your ranking will always be shown on your Dashboard.

### How Rankings Work

Each Monday, you will get a Weekly Summary Email covering all the points you earned the previous week along with your new ranking. You only get a ranking email if you logged in the week before. After 30 days of inactivity, you don't get a ranking at all.

While job searching, you are ranked among all active job seekers in Prentus. This gives you a good indication of where you are in progress on your job search so far. After you mark yourself as hired, your ranking will be among non-jobseekers instead.

### After You Get Hired

When you get hired, you "win" your job search. Your final ranking will be stored on your Job Search Summary in the Placement tab of your profile for you to remember.

You don't have to stop competing though. Yes, the job search goals won't be around anymore but there's a separate leaderboard for non-jobseekers on Prentus.

Now that you are hired, you have a ton of knowledge you can share with the community. Create a post, answer questions, and share jobs on the community board. That will earn you CP and help you compete against a different pool of people in the community.

# How to Earn CP

Throughout the Prentus platform, you will see mentions of Career Points (CP). There are multiple ways to earn them and multiple reasons you want to earn them.

Aside from making the job search a little fun, CP are a great way to measure how well you are doing at hitting your goals in your job search.

## How to Earn CP

You can earn CP in a few different ways. Note that if you are on the Pro plan, you have more opportunities to earn than on our Free plan.

### Helping in the Community

Since Prentus is meant to be the most helpful community you have ever been part of, helping out will earn you CP. CP earned from the community are added to your balance once per day.

There are 3 ways you can currently earn CP:

#### Sharing Helpful Posts

Every time you post, you will earn 1 CP for every upvote you get. An upvote means you shared something helpful or that improved the community in another way. There are no limits to this.

#### Sharing Events

Every time you share an event, you will earn 1 CP each time someone adds it to their calendar. We encourage you to share career events, info sessions, and anything else career related. Even organize your own community meet-up if you want.

When you share an event, it will have to be approved by an admin. After that, it will show under the Events tab.

#### Sharing Jobs

On the Job Board page, you can share jobs you find with the Prentus community. These can be tech jobs you found on another job board or an opportunity at your company.

When someone tracks your job to their Job Tracker, you will earn 1 CP. If you are currently job seeking, you can share a job to the job board by viewing that job in your Job Tracker and clicking the Share option in the menu.

### Hit your Job Search Goals

If you are a job seeker on the Pro plan, you have goals and tasks you can complete to earn points.

#### Weekly Job Applications Goal

On your Planner, you will see a weekly Job Application Goal. Our current default is 10 applications which you can hit by adding 10 jobs to your Job Tracker and marking them as Applied.

Obviously, this can be gamed but what helps you more: gaming the system or actually applying to 10 jobs? Hit your goal each week and you will earn **10 CP**. No limit.

#### Job Search Tasks

Also in your Planner, you have a Task list that you can use to manage what you have to do on your job search. On sign up, you will see some Job Search tasks with a CP value attached to them.

Complete these tasks and you will earn the CP written next to them. Aside from the defaults shown to you when you start your Job Search, you will most likely see a new community challenge in there each week. Easy money.

### Mentoring

The final way to earn CP is by becoming a mentor. There are certain career criteria like working at least 1 year in the industry you want to mentor in but it's an easy way to give back while having fun. If you want to be invited to be a mentor, please message us in the community.

# Prentus Community

**Benefits Of Job Searching In A Community**\
Prentus offers best-in-class job search tools, but that's just the beginning. The key to unlocking the value of Prentus lies in the community. As a Prentus member, you'll have access to thousands of fellow job seekers who can assist and support you throughout your job search journey. \
\
The internet now contains far more information than any individual could consume in a lifetime, let alone a single job search. \
\
So, curation has become critically important. With Prentus, you benefit from crowdsourced jobs, events, and resources. You don't have to do it all yourself. And, you can contribute what you find to help others (while earning Career Points for your efforts). \
\
**Events**\
Even though much of the job search can be done asynchronously, live events can be a great way to meet people, learn, and uncover hidden opportunities. \
\
The Events page will show upcoming events that have been submitted by the Prentus community. You can also submit events you find to share the love! \
\
**Resources** \
Access to the right resources can dramatically reduce the length of your job search. \
\
The Resources page contains a library of resources that have been shared by others in the Prentus community. If you find a useful resource, share it in a post so others can benefit from it as well! \
\
**Crowdsourcing Information**\
Most job seekers don't ask enough questions. Almost all questions people have on the job search have been asked (and answered) somewhere before. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. Instead, take advantage of the Prentus community by posting any questions you have so the community can provide insights and information. \
\
**Collaborating With Other Members**\
In addition to crowdsourcing, you can collaborate with other Prentus members in a variety of ways. Here are some ideas (but you can certainly come up with more): \
\
\- Find an accountability buddy. \
\
\- Find someone to do mock interviews with. \
\
\- Find others to work on a project. \
\
\- Find others to review your resume, portfolio, LinkedIn profile, etc. \
\
\- Arrange co-working or pair programming sessions with others. \
\
\- Offer to trade services (like coding for graphic design or data analysis for copywriting). \
\
The possibilities are truly endless!
